Mountain Man with Bird and Axe is a composition of simplified, geometric shapes which harmonize in their sensitively handled relationship to each other. Color plays an important role; the mountaineer's black figure contrasts with the white bird, axehead and angular, mountain shapes to right and left. As frequently in Azechi's work, the man looks out as if absorbed with an inner vision.
